Contemporary Horn Jewellery
Where It’s From
Shaman’s Boat is an offshoot of our retail outlet, Montagne, that myself and my wife have run for 10 years. About five years ago, uninspired by the horn jewellery we had in the shop, I began to design my own. After much testing and feedback 2018 is the year we start distributing these items worldwide. The custom made parts we have manufactured in Vietnam while the more universal parts and findings we pick up in Thailand. Final assembly and finish is done here in Laos. Most of these designs are inspired by Asia. The patterns and elements, isolated or abstracted are found in the environment, history and architecture.
Small Orders, Better Quality
Postage from Laos is expensive for single items. As such it makes more sense to ship bulk orders directly to retailers. With this in mind I’d like to build up a widespread but personal network of individual boutiques in as many countries as I comfortably can. Small orders of 20 + of each design ensure no-one overstretches and quality is maintained.
Who’s it for?
All these designs have been tried and tested in our shop in Luang Phrabang. Over the years we’ve been here we have noticed most of our customers are professional ladies in their 30’s upwards. Both men and women often buy our jewellery as gifts. Many are initially attracted to the colours and designs but are surprised to learn the principle material is horn and this additional novelty makes the item even more desirable.
Try Shaman’s Boat
Are you a small independent business looking for small orders of something special? This site was made with you in mind. Our ambition is to supply small volumes of high quality original designs at reasonable prices to the people who appreciate them. If you would like to stock this beautiful horn jewelry, please use the form on the contact page or sign up.
Why does the horn have so much variation?
Buffalo horn is a natural material and as such has plenty of colour and thickness variation. Please bear this in mind when ordering. The listed weights for each piece are for shipping calculations and will vary slightly. There may also be subtle differences in the shades of any lacquer parts between batches. We do our best to maintain consistency.
What are the payment terms?
For first time customers, a deposit of 50% of the total value is required to process your order. The rest of the total value plus shipping costs must be paid before we ship to you. We’re happy to provide a photo of your items before sending. Regular customers often choose to pay the full cost upfront to avoid multiple transfer fees.
What are the payment methods?
We accept payments via secured credit card, wire transfer and Western Union. Unfortunately, PayPal and other transfer services are not yet fully operational here in Laos.
Delivery and Shipping?
Unless your entire order is in stock, we need a lead time of up to 4 weeks, depending on the size of your order. There may be delays due to busy seasons, e.g. Christmas, so please plan ahead. Shipping times and fees will depend on the company you choose. The website offers quotes for DHL and EMS once the order is calculated. Photos of your package with tracking numbers will be sent to you when posted. Shaman’s Boat will ship worldwide but due to counterfeiting, some countries are off limits.
Who pays the import taxes?
Shaman’s Boat is not responsible for your import fees and taxes.
What is your returns policy?
Should you receive defective or unordered items due to our error, please send photographic evidence immediately for us to assess. Returns are accepted and replaced at our cost if the defective or unordered items are returned to Shaman’s Boat within 14 days of the date of receipt. Your shipping costs will be refunded.
What is your cancellations policy?
All orders cancelled after production has begun will incur a cancellation fee of 50% of the total order value. The difference will be returned to you as quickly as possible.
